1. Shutterstock introduces generative AI image tool
Customers of Shutterstock now have the option of creating their own AI images. The business declared a partnership with OpenAI in October.
The outcomes of that agreement are currently undergoing beta testing and are accessible to all paid Shutterstock customers.
2. Tesla posts record revenue, selling 1.31 million EVs in 2022
Tesla delivered 405,278 electric cars in the fourth quarter, up from 343,830 in the third quarter. Tesla reported a net profit of $3.7 billion as opposed to the fourth quarter’s $2.32 billion
Tesla delivered a total of 1.31 million vehicles in 2022, a new high for the brand and a 40% increase year over year. However, this falls just short of the company’s own target of 1.4 million deliveries.
3. Google claims DoJ’s complaint which accuses it of abusing market dominance is ‘without merit’
The US government pushed for forcing Google to sell its ad manager suite, which is expected to account for 12% of its revenue in 2021.
Google stated that it will “defend itself vigorously” and that it believes the US Department of Justice’s complaint that accused Google of abusing its market dominance in digital advertising is “without merit.”
4. Govt shelves PIB fact-check plan amid protests from editors and publishers
The IT ministry postponed its plans that require social media companies and other platforms to remove content that has been flagged as “fake or false” by the Press Information Bureau’s fact-checking unit.
The Editors Guild of India, the Indian Newspaper Society, and the News Broadcasters & Digital Association all voiced opposition to the decision, claiming that it would grant the PIB broad authority.
5. 25% salaried Indians are worried about layoff, survey shows
One in four Indians is concerned about the possibility of losing their jobs. This is comparatively greater among the affluent (32%) and older 36–55-year-olds (30%) as well as the salaried groups (30 per cent).
Three out of four Indians, according to the survey, are concerned about growing inflation. Additionally, two-thirds favour increasing the tax credit for investments made under 80C.
6. Coca-Cola could soon launch cola-themed smartphone
It appears that Coca-Cola is collaborating on a smartphone project for the first time, despite the fact that it resembles a vinyl skin that has been added to an already existing phone.
It’s unclear exactly which manufacturer of Android smartphones is behind the Coca-Cola partnership. People speculate that this might actually be a rebranded Realme 10 Pro.
7. IBM to reduce headcounts by 3,900
It was declared by International Business Machines Corp. that 3,900 jobs will be lost. In January, job losses totaled over 44,000 across Google’s parent company, Alphabet Inc., Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com Inc., and IBM.
In 2022, the tech industry declared 97,171 job cuts, an increase of 649% over the previous year.
