Hey, I'm not a big fan of how you refer to 'sanskari'. I thought our sanskari was actually pro erotica - we worship a phallus and our temples have naked women with bossoms stickin' out.
On another note, porn addiction is seriously damaging and this trend could encourage more minors to start delivering sexual content, with or without their consent. Does Chingaari check the Aadhar cards of the performers before allowing them to stream to verify their age? How do they know that a girl/woman is not being forced into doing it by say an alcoholic husband?
Even if Chingaari claims to have only soft porno, it's on the borderline and may end up getting banned if a journo like Arnab finds out about it and raises a brouhaha. The government will react knee-jerk with a ban. I can't believe the investors have such an appetite for risk with this app? Is it even worth it?
hey Neil - interesting take on being sanskari - never looked at it from that pov :)
"I can't believe the investors have such an appetite for risk with this app? Is it even worth it?" - investors and founders are the best ones to judge that. I am sure there is a due dilligence.
Yes - all for porn addiction being damaging, but what I am saying is that there is a market demand and people are paying for it.The tech ecosystem (globally) solves for the demand and that's the reality - no matter how much we want them to solve for the good things (like hunger, poverty) :|
I agree there is lots of money - it trails demand after all. But all demand need not be legitimate or in the interest of the country/society - drugs, weapons all have big demand and big monies behind them - anyhow, I just can't wrap my head about how these guys don't foresee the govt intervening in a conservative manner when this blows up and literally "shutting it down overnight". I frankly don't see the govt being mature enough to allow this, nor do I see our society being mature enough to use this responsibly.
Isnt the same for food delivery apps? Think about it :)
To me, a good food delivery business is the one which has a direct tie up with hospital chain - after all, most of the 'daily active users' would need that support.
It is and you are right - almost all apps are built around dopamine hits and addiction.
What if we keep aside the users for a second, and look at just the creators - isn't there a big grey area around consent (girls being forced to do this) and underage porn creation in this case? I am not against sexualization of content or sex, for money, but definitely not at the cost of someone's rights. Remember the case of the girl from Mysore that killed herself because her lover posted her nudes on a porno site w/o her consent?
Ashish, after a very long time I've read your post and now it seems you're losing the objectivity in your content which is getting filled with more words than substance. I hope you'll improve it further! As mere copy the headline and some stuff from Inc42's article will not bring the readers, you've to provide more objectivity and exclusivity in your content. Period
that's true.. I am just surprised that while there is so much brouhaha and govt attention on content moderation on large platforms, these platforms are freely operating and openly branding themselves as "adult content" platforms and govt is not even batting an eyelid..

Thanks Ashish for the reply!

It's equally damaging - in a diff way :)

Sumeet - clearly you didn't read the post and instead, decided to comment on it. Period.
Isnt there a legal issue here? Isn't creating / sharing / peddling pornographic content illegal in India?
look at the top 50 grossing apps in India - apart frm the regular brands, most are on the hazy side.
